Job Description

Position Summary

The Tower Crane Technician is responsible for the assembly, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of tower cranes and associated lifting equipment used in company operations.

The Tower Crane Technician works closely with crane operators, mechanics, engineers, and operations teams to ensure equipment remains safe, compliant, and operational.

Key Responsibilities

  • Crane Assembly & Disassembly

           - Assist with tower crane erection, climbing, dismantling, and relocation

           -Install tower crane structural components, jib sections, counterweights, and mechanical systems

           -Ensure assembly procedures follow manufacturer instructions and engineered lift plans

           -Coordinate with crane operators and rigging teams during erection activities

  • Maintenance & Repair

           - Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing of tower cranes

           - Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues

           - Ensure repairs comply with manufacturer specifications and engineering requirements

           - Perform repairs to crane systems including:

              > hoisting systems

              > slewing systems

              > trolley systems

              > braking systems

              > mechanical assemblies

  • Inspections & Documentation

           - Conduct routine inspections of crane mechanical components

           - Assist with annual or scheduled crane inspections

           - Maintain service records and documentation

           - Report equipment concerns and safety issues immediately

  • Compliance & Safety

           - All crane maintenance and repair work must comply with applicable regulations and safety standards. Responsibilities include:

              > Working in accordance with WorkSafeBC OHS Regulation – Part 14

              > Following CSA Z248 – Code for Tower Cranes

              > Adhering to manufacturer maintenance manuals

              > Following engineer-approved repair procedures where applicable

              > Maintaining safe work practices while working at heights or around heavy equipment

Required Qualifications

  • Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician, Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), or equivalent mechanical trade certification OR Minimum 5 years experience working on tower cranes or large lifting equipment
  • Demonstrated experience with:

           - crane mechanical systems

           - hydraulic systems

           - structural assemblies

  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and technical manuals
  • Ability to diagnose, repair and troubleshoot equipment
  • Ability to work at heights and lift heavy components
  • Ability to work in construction environments
  • Ability to travel to various worksites
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and English language skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and situational awareness
  • Experience with tower crane erection and climbing, and/or servicing top-slewing or luffing-jib cranes, considered an asset

Terms of Employment

  • $45 to $55 per hour (based on experience)
  • 40 hours per week
