Green Island Builders is a residential renovation company made up of amazing people who take pride in their work. 

We are seeking individuals who can supervise a small crew and deliver big outcomes. Individuals who can mentor and teach apprentices, read plans, understand residential building codes, and communicate with clients, subcontractors and Crew effectively and professionally. Carpenter Responsibilities/Duties

Construction:

  • Applies hands-on skills in site demolition, concrete work, structural and light framing, roof framing, stairs, drywall installation, finishing, windows and doors installation, flooring, finish carpentry, cabinetry installation, painting, exterior wood siding and trim, deck and stairs, fencing, and site de-establishment.

  • Develops and implements site establishment requirements, including safety, toolbox talks, zoning, and signage.

  • Leads and supports all scheduled sub-trades on-site including conducting walkthroughs for the scope of works.

  • Oversees daily coordination with the apprentices, providing task lists, mentoring, and quality checks.

  • Oversees finishes, fixtures, functions, and styles according to technical specifications and client requirements.

  • Conducts quality checks on all products before installation and manage any necessary customizations.

  • Manages and addresses issues or problems that may impact the project plan. Communicates issues to the Construction Manager (CM) as appropriate.

  • Organizes delivery and pickups of material, manages dump runs, and operates power equipment where certified and required.

  • Coordinates the deficiency list in collaboration with the Construction Manager. Raises and discusses relevant issues, suggesting solutions when required. 

  • Ensures up-to-date or revised drawings on-site for document control.

  • Conducts health and safety inspections, toolbox talks, risk assessments, hazard assessments, etc.

  • Conducts check-ins with the Project Manager and Construction Manager indicating any scope progression and providing progress reports.

  • Leads site de-establishment.

  • Participates in project walkthrough meetings to establish the SOW. 

  • Collaborates with the Estimator to provide carpentry expertise and ensure estimation accuracy. 

  • Creates learning opportunities for apprentices and provides mentorship.

Administrative:

  • Completes daily logs. 

  • Maintains a positive attitude and professional working relationship with employees, sub-trades, and clients.

  • Actively plans ahead to prevent problems and resolve any emerging ones.

  • Conducts auxiliary drafting and plan reviews.

  • Actively represents GIB while on site and works to educate and manage client needs and expectations. 

  • Champions culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • Supports the Project Manager & Construction Manager with pre-construction where necessary. 

  • Participates in performance conversations where deemed necessary. 

  • Performs other duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • A diploma or certificate in Site Management or Supervision, Red Seal ticket, or related experience would be an asset

Experience & Knowledge:

  • On-site manager/lead Carpenter experience

  • Residential renovation experience is an asset.

  • Experience in a mentorship or teaching position is an asset.
