The Sales Manager / Chief Estimator is responsible for managing the estimating department and for estimating as required to fulfill the Position Purpose. The Position Purpose is to ensure that Solid Rock Steel secures the right amount of the right work that will enable the achievement of the Annual Financial Targets established by the Senior Leadership Team.
- External Relationship Development: Build relationships with clients, consultants of clients, etc. as required to fulfill the Position Purpose.
Potential Project Selection: Identify potential projects well suited for Solid Rock Steel and select projects to bid on. Maintain an estimating calendar with due dates.
- Pre-Qualifications: Maintain current pre-qualifications and sub-guard applications with preferred clients.
- Estimating: Estimate as required based on the collective capacity and respective strengths of the estimating team members.
- Bid Review & Submission: Review bids prepared by estimating team members and authorize bid submissions. Follow up on bid results, report and track
- Negotiation and Contract Review: Negotiate contract price & terms. Prior to execution comprehensively review contract conditions.
- Team Development: Continuously improve the strengths and capacities of the estimating team.
- Industry Understanding: Through reading relevant information sources, attending relevant events, etc., continuously learn about the latest relevant trends, risks, and opportunities in industry.
- Estimating Tools: Continuously improve estimating tools, proposal letter terms, etc.
- Meetings: Prepare for and attend project Hand-Off meetings, project Post-Mortems meetings, monthly Operations meetings, and quarterly Strategy meetings, as well as other meetings required to achieve the Position Purpose.

- Extensive (10+ years) experience in the metal fabrication and installation industry relevant to the types of projects completed by SRS. Experience needs to be specifically related to estimating, management of estimating teams, and business development.
- Excellent computer skills and proficient in relevant software including Google, Microsoft 365 (MS Excel & Word), Bluebeam, Procore, etc
- Excellent knowledge of Contract Law & types of Contracts and basic knowledge of accounting
- Experience in planning and implementing sales strategies.
- Experience in customer relationship management.
- Experience managing and directing a sales team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Dedication to providing great customer service.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing or related fields, is an asset.
