Role Overview

The Sales and Service representative will focus on selling products and services for Island Basement Systems ((BS) and will be responsible for leading our “Service and sales” program for the Nanaimo to Campbell River area.   This position will mostly be on the road with some travel to our Duncan office a few times per month.

Reporting the GM for operational aspects and the President for sales performance, the Sales and Service Representative will have the opportunity to drawing on the experience of both positions. 

Candidates will need to be proficient in sales as well as knowledgeable in the design, sales and servicing of basement systems.  Previous experience and expertise in residential home repair, construction and renovation, will be required.  This role is mostly a lead-bank (our marketing program for lead generation) driven role for sales, as well as in-house service. Additional marketing efforts to be made by this position would be peer-to-peer, referrals, and supporting the Realtor program.

About Island Basement Systems

Island Basement Systems is a full-service home improvement company specializing in basement waterproofing, crawl space repairs, and sump pump installation. Since 2003, we have provided home improvements from the basement to the attic.  Starting as a tiny home-based location in Squamish, BC, we are now an expanding operation with three locations, and working on a fourth location. Twelve staff, and $3M in sales in 2023.

Key Expectations & Job Responsibilities

Service

  • Gain a thorough understanding of service and warranty information for IBS products.
  • Identify common causes of service calls and implement training to mitigate the root causes.
  • Assist customers in making educated decisions toward buying an IBS service.
  • Effectively diagnose service problems, determine if warranty applies, provide estimates and present solutions to customers.
  • Maintain and implement the “Service For Life” program, including marketing, follow-up, service calls, upselling and file maintenance.  Present customers with opportunities for additional services.
  • Assist in the training of new IBS personnel.

Sales

  • Design and sell systems, products and services that provide customers with appropriate, complete and long-term solutions.
  • Review customer specifications and provide input to customize orders as appropriate.
  • This role is mostly a lead-bank driven role for sales, as well as in-house service. Additional marketing expectations are peer-to-peer, referrals, and supporting the Realtor program.
  • Improve marketing, sales volumes, selling skills and margins, with a focus on enhancing the overall sales and marketing outcomes for IBS.  Network with local contractors, inspectors, realtors, etc. to increase awareness of IBS.
  • Work within IBS profit margins and profitability parameters.
  • Ensure that design and system details are clear, documented, shared with operations and installation teams and are clearly understood by the installation team to enable efficient installation.
  • Follow the sales processes, “Ten Steps to a Sale” processes and operations processes.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customers and team members.
  • Utilize effective written and verbal communication to keep customers and team members informed and ensure that proactive follow up occurs.
  • Create a monthly sales report for leadership, including all leads & sold and unsold jobs and document all customer interactions within the Daylite CRM system.
  • Maintain a good sense of respect and teamwork with all employees.
  • Follow, maintain and provide improvements to the IBS safety program.
  • Ensure job files are submitted weekly, using IBS procedures.
  • Ensure prompt follow-up with all customers and staff and be on time for all appointments.
  • Ensure expenses for the month are submitted by the first Monday of the following month
  • Keep vehicle, office and department work area neat and clean and practices good housekeeping.
  • Handle other assignments efficiently and timely as requested by the management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong existing building science, building code, product and technical knowledge and experience.  Ongoing self-education is critical to the success of this position.
  • Ongoing current knowledge of market trends & the competitive market, to share internally.
  • A naturally enthusiastic, friendly and courteous approach to customer service.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, along with strong emotional intelligence.
  • Proven experience following and maintain the “Ten Steps to the Selling” process to open and close deals.
  • A track record of consistently meeting or exceeding sales quotas within budget guidelines.
  • Past experience identifying cost reduction opportunities & taking a cost-conscious approach to work.
  • Easily maneuverable with all limbs, and the ability to enter into crawlspaces and attics without hindrance. Sometimes required to lift or push more than 50lbs.
  • Ability and agility to enter into tight areas, such as crawlspaces.
  • Neat and clean in appearance.
  • High School graduation with some College and/or University sales and marketing courses.
