Job Description

Columbia Seal Ltd is a subcontracting construction company located in Central Burnaby. We provide building envelope and firestopping trade service. We perform in-house service providing below-grade waterproofing, traffic coatings, concrete restoration, sealants, firestopping and more. We provide service for new construction and building restoration. We have been in business for 30 years and are looking to grow our team. We like to provide quality work and do so in a safe manner.

Our office is located in Central Burnaby. We've got 8 team members in the office and 40+ in the field.

Columbia Seal is searching for our new company Safety Advisor. As Safety Advisor, you will work closely with management and field staff to administer, implement, oversee and monitor our occupational health and safety program. Our Safety Advisor is important to our team, being the first point of contact for all items safety to our organization. Our Safety Advisor is patient, understanding and views situations as an opportunity to learn and improve on knowledge. Our Safety Advisor is pro-active in their approach, organized, and well-mannered to our teammates and will improve the occupational health and safety of our staff. Our Safety Advisor loves to learn about safety and improve on their knowledge too.

Your contributions

  • Ensuring workplace health and safety in our warehouse
  • Ensuring workplace health safety on our various job sites and crews
  • Driving from job site to job site reviewing job site conditions, preparing preconstruction hazard assessments, and communicating to / orientating crew members
  • Assisting crews preparing field level hazard assessments as needed
  • Meet with consultants as needed on job sites or offices to review site conditions to prepare site specific plans.
  • Oversee employee certificate program, keep up with certificate expires, book and coordinate training as needed.
  • Conduct rope and ladder inspections, workplace inspections.
  • Mentor and facilitate a cultural/behavioral change in the workplace relative to employees accepting responsibilities for their own safety in all activity.
  • Participate and lead as needed all company accident/incident investigation.
  • Training the trainer fit testing

Preferred Qualifications

Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

Construction Safety Officer or similar accreditation through a recognized training authority.

Minimum 3 years experience in an occupational health and safety role.

Minimum 3 years experience in residential wood frame and concrete construction.

First Aid Level 2 minimum

Familiarly with Workers Compensation Act regulation

Knowledge of confined space and hot work processes

Sophisticated digital literacy

Familiar with Microsoft office and their programs

Time management, organizational and problem-solving skills including an understanding of accident analysis and prevention.

WHIMIS, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection and Aerial Work Platform certification an asset.

Interpersonal and negotiation skills.

Ability to mentor, facilitate and influence a cultural and behavioral change in the workplace regarding safety.

Communication skills: both verbal and written, with the ability to transfer knowledge to a diverse audience.

Ability to work independently and initiate new insights to challenge the status quo.

Ability to enter confined spaces as well as work at heights.

Attention to detail and diligent

Ability to create positive working relationships with a variety of people

Clean Class 5 driver license
