BA Blacktop Ltd. is currently seeking a team-oriented, self-motivated and dedicated individual to join our Operations Team as a Project Manager.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Project Manager is in charge of the construction and execution of all assigned projects with assistance of available resources including Superintendents and Project Coordinators or larger projects. They coordinate plans and supervise field staff, subcontractors and craft activities for their projects. The Project Manager maintains liaison with other departments to assure all required materials, equipment and inspections are in place to support the project schedules. The Project Manager updates and is responsible for the budget and the schedule of their projects. They distribute department resources fairly amongst all department projects and communicate with other departments for needs or availability of resources. The Project Manager prioritizes and optimizes use of company owned equipment to rental equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Chair the bid handover meeting on all their assigned projects except for Level A projects of value below $100K where PM ensures bid handover meeting is held between relevant Superintendent and Estimator.
- Prior to construction, establishes with relevant Superintendent construction schedule, project objectives and goals commensurate with contract requirements, budget, and company policy. Reviews with Division Manager for all level B and C projects and submits comments on detail budget, time restraints, cost codes, and purchase control. Establishes job organization for field supervision.
- Reviews adequacy of project insurance, including Builder’s Risk, subcontractor Certificates of Insurance, and specific insurance on appropriate project. Assures that permitting requirements have been obtained.
- Prepares and schedules project activities with Superintendent on a daily to weekly basis as required.
- Updates detailed progress schedules, conducts pre-construction and construction meeting related to execution planning of major construction activities and sequences. Constantly verifies material and resource delivery requirements, including shop drawing submittals, and assures adequate flow as not to impede progress.
- Monitor with Superintendent costs and production rates on daily to weekly basis as required to ensure budget goals are followed. Adjust resources or working conditions as needed to optimize project results.
- Prepares progress payment requests with Superintendent and reviews for validation before submittal to the Owner’s representative and/or Engineer’s approval prior to submitting for payment. Oversees pay requisition submittals, and monitors receivables and collections of the project. Responsible for closeout and warranty of the project.
- Identifies any extra work requested by the Owner, or occasioned by job conditions, work directed which is beyond the original estimate of contract documents and follow contractual process to ensure payment of out-of-scope work.
- Assures prompt responses to change orders including follow-up insistence of timely Owner action. Responsible for prompt written action to contractual required notices and responses, assuring preservation of Company interests. Assures written correspondence to all parties of actions anticipated of interpretations relied upon by the Company.
- Being responsible for supervision of day-to-day quality control of company performed work and subcontractor’s work, and for compliance with contract requirements.
- Relay relevant information from higher ups and company policy updates to his staff.
- Assigns department resources fairly amongst department projects. Communicate with other departments on resources availability or needs. Optimizes use of company owned equipment.
- Update Production schedule
- Represents ethically and professionally the company in all interactions with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and colleagues.
- Strictly follows WorkSafeBC Standards (eg. OHS regulations, Worker’s Compensation Act, Employment Standards Act), OFA III, and have adherence to company health and safety policy in the workplace.
- Check Estimating Budget and prepares PM Budget for review by Ops Manager, Validate PM Budget, be responsible for Last Updated Budget in Kheops and its variations, and issue subcontracts, DB agreements and purchase orders for its project
Essential Qualifications:
- Well-developed understanding of road/bridge construction
- Knowledgeable in settlement, utilities, roadwork and structural work
- Primavera or MS Project
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good communicator with owner, consultants, subcontractors, and staff
- Ability to complete the projects on time and budget
- Good timely billing and money collection from clients
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with T&I Contract format is preferred.
- Registration as a PMP or P. Eng qualification.
Location: Great Vancouver Area

Pay: $110,000.00-$160,000.00 per year
