Alka Pool Construction Ltd. specializes in constructing high-value poolscapes and has built a very successful business for 65 years.  We are looking to hire a plumber in permanent full-time positions to grow with the company.

The role of the Swimming Pool Equipment & Piping Installer includes equipment installations and piping of pools, whirlpools and various types of waterscapes as well as cross-training in all aspects of construction in the swimming pool industry at Alka Pool’s various project sites.  A successful candidate is a person who is; an effective communicator (verbal and written), problem solves, has a strong mechanical sense, enjoys physical work in the outdoors, is experienced in various aspects of construction (commercial and residential) and must have a minimum of 3 years experience directly in the concrete pool industry.

Role & Responsibilities

·                     Swimming pool equipment installation and piping involving but not limited to;

o    Install, repair and maintain pool filtration circulation equipment, and related equipment.

o    Install, repair and maintain pipes, fixtures and other pool plumbing used for water distribution in residential and semi-commercial poolscapes.

o    Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing systems, water supply network and drainage systems.

o    Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes in walls and floors.

o    Cut opening in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings.

o    Measure, cut, bend and thread pipes using air and water pressure gauges.

o    Track and request order of supplies & materials required for scopes of work.

·                     Answering to foreman, Project Managers and/or COO.

·                     Documenting and completing test reports for project submission

·                     Completing work orders for project cost plus work

·                     Completing timesheet bi-weekly

·                     May require occasional out of town work for periods of 1-3 weeks at a time.

·                     Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment & What We Offer:

·         Position is full-time, year round (+40 hrs / week).

·         Work is primarly field-bases on active residential and commercial construction sites, including outdoor and indoor environments. 

·         Project sites are mainly in the Lower Mainland, but also at various out-of-town project sites throughout BC (predominately Vancouver Island, Squamish-Whistler-Pemberton Corridor and Sushine Coast).

Compensation includes:

·         $32.00-$39.00/hour dependent upon direct pool equipment and piping skillset, competence and experience. 

·         Company standard benefits package (upon completion of 3-month probationary period) consisting of; extended health and dental benefits, life insurance, limited disability.

·         Personal Performance bonuses.

·         Out-of-town room and per diem board expenses paid.

Preferred Qualifications

What a successful Candiate would bring:

·                     Minimum 3 years experience & competency in swimming pool and spa equipment and piping installation (required).

·                     Valid Driver’s licence and the ability to travel between job sites within the region.

·                     Physically able to perform construction work (lift 50 lbs, bending, work on ladders/scaffolds, work outdoors in varying weather conditions).

·                     Strong teamwork orientation; collaborates effecitively with supervisors, other trades and team members to keep work flowing and meet milestones, but can also work well independently.

·                     High attention to detail and quality

·                     Sound problem-solving skills; able to propose practical solutions that respect design intent, code and site constraints.

·                     Reliable, self-directed, highly organized, long term planner.  Able to plan daily tasks from drawings and verbal instructions with minimal supervision.

·                     Working knowledge of occupational health and safety requirement and best practices for commercial construction sites (WCB rules and regulations and other safety requirements).

·                     Clear professional communication with excellent written and oral English skills as work language is English.

·                     Grade 12 graduation or equivalent combination of education, training and relevant field experience.

·                     Provide Own PPE:  Hard hat, Steel toe safety boots (CSA Approved), visibility vest, safety glasses, etc.
