Reporting to the Associate Director, Planning, the Interior Modifications Team Lead provides professional and technical leadership for the Interior Modifications team within Facilities Management’s Capital Development & Delivery (CDD) portfolio.

This position oversees day-to-day project workflows, exercising judgement over priorities, sequencing, and technical standards to ensure all interior design, renovation and improvement projects are delivered to a consistent professional standard. The Team Lead coordinates assignments, reviews work for quality and consistency and supports the integration of interior design and fit-out components within UVic’s broader capital program.

Operating as a working lead, the position balances direct project delivery with leadership responsibilities, ensuring that the team’s outputs align with UVic’s Campus Plan, Strategic Facilities Plan, Facilities Infrastructure Technical Standards (FITS), Climate and Sustainability Action Plan (CSAP), and Equity Action Plan.

Objectives:

  • Lead and oversee the day-to-day work of the Interior Modifications team to ensure balanced workloads, timely delivery, and quality outcomes.
  • Provide senior technical leadership, oversight and mentorship in the planning, design, and delivery of interior and capital improvement projects across the university.
  • Ensure compliance and consistency with Facilities Infrastructure Technical Standards (FITS), UVic design policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead process improvement by developing and implementing standardized workflows, templates, and documentation practices.
  • Act as a key integrator across Facilities Management portfolios to ensure seamless integration of interior modifications work into capital, renewal, and operational projects.
  • Promote inclusive, sustainable, and high-quality design outcomes that advance UVic’s institutional commitments to accessibility, reconciliation, and climate action.

The Team Lead’s involvement in projects requires flexibility to work weekends or after hours in accordance with project schedules. Work requires physical, sight and hearing abilities in moving furniture and fixtures, managing renovation sites, and selecting finishes. Safety is critical and will be a key point of focus during site visits where there is exposure to height conditions, noise, untidy and potentially hazardous site conditions during construction and/or including exposure to weather conditions.
