Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Glass Installer to join our team. The Glass Installer will be responsible for measuring, cutting, installing, and repairing glass in various residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Projects may include windows, doors, shower enclosures, skylights, sunrooms, canopies, storefronts, and other custom glass structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Glass Installation and Repairs:

    • Install and repair glass in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
    • Measure and cut glass to precise specifications.
    • Install glass in frames, doors, and other structures using appropriate tools and techniques.

  2. Customer Interaction:

    • Communicate with customers to understand their requirements and provide expert advice.
    • Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality workmanship and addressing concerns.

  3. Project Preparation:

    • Read and interpret blueprints or job orders to determine the type of installation or repair required.
    • Prepare surfaces and ensure proper alignment for glass installation.

  4. Tools and Equipment:

    • Use hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment such as glass cutters, drills, and lifting devices.
    • Maintain and care for all tools and equipment to ensure safety and efficiency.

  5. Safety and Compliance:

    • Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.

  6. Problem-Solving:

    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during installations or repairs.
    • Provide solutions for custom glass designs or challenging installations.

  7. Team Collaboration:

    • Work closely with colleagues, project managers, and contractors to complete projects efficiently.
    • Assist in loading, unloading, and transporting glass materials.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience:
- 3+ years of professional experience in glass installation or a related trade.
- Experience working with specialized glass projects (e.g., frameless shower doors, sunrooms, skylights, canopies, storefronts).

2. Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with industry-standard tools and equipment, such as suction cups, glass cutters, and grinders.
- Knowledge of glass safety standards, including handling and transportation of tempered and laminated glass.

3. Certifications: Valid certifications such as:
- WorkSafe BC Certification or equivalent.
- Boom Lift or Forklift Operation Certificate.
- Fall Protection Training.
- First Aid Certification.

4. Communication Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with customers, team members, and vendors.
- Fluency in English.

5. Project Estimation & Management:
- Experience estimating material costs, labor, and time for glass installation projects.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.

6. PPE Knowledge and Compliance:
- Owns and regularly uses personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety boots, gloves, glasses, and vests.

7. Physical Capabilities:
- Excellent physical stamina and ability to handle heavy materials safely.
- Comfortable working at heights, using ladders, scaffolds, or lifts.

8. Teamwork and Problem-Solving:
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills for handling challenging installations or repairs.

9. Customer Service Orientation:
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service, including explaining products and installation processes to clients.

10. Driver’s License and Transportation:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
