Job Description

Colecon Contracting Ltd is a fully insured and bonded civil excavation, and underground utility company that specializes in subdivision development, underground utilities (Sani, Storm, Water, Hydro, Tel, etc), road construction, grading, crushing / gravel production, rock drilling and much more. We are based in Langford BC, and work between Victoria, and Duncan.

Work schedule is Monday to Friday 7:00am to 5:00pm

Over time pay after 8 hours

We do all the following work in house

- Survey and layout (Using Trimble GPS GNSS and robotic total stations.

- Tree clearing

- Brush and stump grinding using (Peterson 5710 grinder)

- Drill and blast using (Sandvik DX800, DPi1500, Traxxon hoe drills, and epiroc t40 Drills)

- Excavation and road building (Excavator from Cat 305s to cat 390s, Rock trucks vovlo A40s and cat 740s)

- aggregate crushing with (Finlay j1160 c1540, 883s stackers ect)

- All utility installs (sani sewer, storm, water, force mains, UG hydro tel shaw, street lighting, large vaults, pump stations and everything in-between)

Colecon Construction requires an experienced and reliable Civil Foreperson. In this position, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful completion of our construction projects. The Foreman works directly with the Site Superintendent to support the management daily site activities, delegation of responsibilities to the site crew and subcontractors, trouble shooting of issues that arise, and ensure that the Health and Safety standards on site are being upheld. Depending on the scale and complexity of the project, the Foreman may be required to personally perform some trade functions on the site. As such, the Foreman should keep the appropriate personal tools with them.

Job Duties Responsibilities:

  • Support the Site Superintendent with the planning, implementation, and management of project priorities according to the schedule
  • Complete a site walk around at the beginning and end of each shift
  • Supervise tasks being completed by site crews and subcontractors
  • Delegate responsibilities and tasks to site crews, subcontractors, and other workers according to priorities and plans
  • Assist with conducting weekly Toolbox Talks, weekly Worksite Inspections, Site Specific Safety Orientations and Safety Reporting
  • Complete daily logs, as required
  • Working with or making things with wood in the construction, installation or repair of structures or components of structures
  • Preparing site and building layouts
  • Constructing foundations and concrete structures
  • Framing structures
  • Applying interior and exterior finishes.
  • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
  • Load and unload construction materials and move materials to work areas
  • Assembling, erecting, installing and dismantling structures
  • Erect and dismantle concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring, and barricades required at construction sites
  • Assist tradespersons such as Foremen and trade partners in construction activities
  • Dig trenches, backfill excavations, compact and level earth to grade specifications, using appropriate tool
  • Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, and other equipment
  • Perform other activities at construction sites as directed

Preferred Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in civil construction or related projects
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering concepts, construction methods, and best practices.
  • Experience in planning daily tasks and managing resources effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize work to meet tight deadlines and project milestones.
  • Ability to multitask with strong attention to detail
  • Productive in a team environment
  • Understands and adheres to all safety policies and procedures
  • Able to stand and walk for long periods of time, push/pull, bend and crouch frequently and work in adverse weather conditions
  • Highly proficient in both spoken and written English
  • Must be located in the Greater Victoria area or willing to relocate
  • Own transportation, able to get to and from site
