Habitat for Humanity Victoria is seeking a Critical Repairs Program Lead to deliver our hands-on home repair program supporting local homeowners.

This is a field-based role combining skilled trades work with project coordination. You will assess repair needs, complete work directly, and oversee contractors and volunteers to ensure safe, high-quality project delivery.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct site visits, assess repairs, and develop scopes of work
  • Perform residential repairs (carpentry, maintenance, accessibility upgrades)
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors and volunteers
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, quoting, and materials
  • Build positive relationships with homeowners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project Management: Ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee multiple repair projects simultaneously, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
  • Construction Knowledge & Hands-On Ability: Strong understanding of residential construction and repair processes, with proven practical skills. Capable of completing basic repairs independently—such as installing bathroom grab bars, replacing windows and casing, and addressing minor carpentry and accessibility upgrades—proven ability to take on larger projects and lead a team to complete the necessary repairs. 
  • Leadership & Team Coordination: Experience leading staff, contractors, and both skilled and unskilled volunteers, with the ability to delegate tasks appropriately, provide guidance, and ensure a safe, productive, and inclusive work environment.
  • Volunteer Engagement & Training: Ability to work effectively with volunteers of varying skill levels—offering clear instructions, basic training, encouragement, and supervision to build confidence and maintain quality workmanship.
  • Communication Skills: Clear, compassionate communication with homeowners, funders, partners, and team members—especially when working with vulnerable populations.
  • Problem Solving & Adaptability: Ability to assess complex repair needs, troubleshoot issues on-site, and adjust plans as conditions change.
  • Budgeting & Financial Oversight: Experience managing project budgets, tracking expenses, and ensuring cost-effective use of funds.
  • Partnership Development: Ability to build and maintain relationships with community partners, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with local building codes, permits, safety regulations, and inspection processes.
  • Health & Safety Knowledge: Strong understanding of workplace safety practices, including hazard identification and mitigation.
  • Administrative & Technical Skills: Proficiency in project tracking, reporting, and basic software tools (e.g., spreadsheets, project management systems).
  • Equity & Client-Centered Approach: Sensitivity to diverse client needs, with a commitment to dignity, providing a hand up and housing stability.
