Position Overview

KEDC is seeking a strategic and results-driven Construction Contract Manager (KCLP) to lead contract negotiations and partnerships for large-scale infrastructure and development projects. As a key representative of KEDC, you will work closely with construction companies, local Governments, and Joint Venture partners to ensure agreements align with our economic and community goals. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will oversee contract management, facilitate stakeholder collaboration, and drive business development through industry networking. With a focus on protecting KEDC’s interests, maximizing financial returns, and fostering sustainable growth, this role requires a skilled negotiator with a strong understanding of contract law, risk assessment, and construction industry standards. To be successful in this role, you thrive in high-level negotiations, have a passion for community-driven development, and excel in building meaningful partnerships.

As the Construction Contract Manager, your key responsibilities are:

  • Negotiate construction contracts on behalf of KEDC with companies capable of managing complex, large-scale projects 
  • Establish terms that promote the KEDC’s long-term economic and social goals 
  • Collaborate with the City of Courtenay, the Town of Comox, the Village of Cumberland, and KFN to ensure contracts awarded to Joint Venture partners are within the K’ómoks Territory 
  • Act as the central point of communication between KEDC, construction companies, and other stakeholders 
  •  Provide regular updates and comprehensive reports to the CEO regarding project progress, contract performance, and financial outcomes
  • Organize and attend monthly meetings with contractors to strengthen relationships, address concerns, and ensure alignment with project objectives   
  • Attend networking events that support KEDC’s objective, grow relationships, and growth with other Nations 
  • Identify potential risks, resolve disputes, and ensure adherence to agreed-upon terms 
  • Provide expert advice and strategic guidance to leadership on construction partnerships and opportunities

This is a full-time 35-hours per week position, that offers the opportunity to work fully remote, with travel to various sites as needed. Some evening and weekend work is required. The salary range is between $73,000-$85,000 annually.

Preferred Qualifications

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Law, or a related field  
  • Minimum of 5 years in contract negotiation, construction project management, or a related field 
  • Proven track record of managing contracts involving multi-party agreements and large-scale construction projects 
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills 
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities 
  • Expertise in contract law, risk assessment, and financial analysis 
  • Strong organizational skills to manage complex contracts and multiple stakeholders 
  • Experience working with First Nations is an asset
